Creating a Bill of Materials

This guide walks you through navigating to the Bill of Materials (BOM) list and creating a new BOM by defining a finished good and its raw material components.

Prerequisites

  • At least one finished good item exists in your item catalog
  • At least one raw material item exists in your item catalog
1

Open the Bill of Materials list

Navigate to Manufacturing > BOM. The page will load displaying your existing Bills of Material.
2

Open the new BOM form

Click the New button (or navigate directly to the new BOM form) to open a blank Bill of Materials entry.
3

Select the finished good

Click the first Finished Good combobox at the top of the form. Select the item you want this BOM to produce from the dropdown list.
4

Add a raw material

In the raw materials table, locate the first row. Click the Item combobox in that row and select the raw material item you want to include from the dropdown list.
5

Enter quantity and rate

In the same raw material row, enter the required Quantity (for example, 2) and the unit Rate (for example, 25) in their respective fields.
6

Save the BOM

Click the Save button to save your new Bill of Materials. The form will redirect away from the new record page once saving is complete.
You can add multiple raw material rows to a single BOM to represent all components required to produce the finished good.
Make sure all items you plan to use — both finished goods and raw materials — are set up in your item catalog before creating a BOM. Missing items will not appear in the dropdown options.
