Creating a Bill of Materials

A Bill of Materials (BOM) defines the raw materials and quantities required to produce a finished good. This guide walks you through creating a new BOM in the Manufacturing module.

Prerequisites

  • At least one finished good item exists in your item list
  • At least one raw material item exists in your item list
1

Open the new BOM form

Navigate to Manufacturing > BOM and click the New button, or go directly to the new BOM form via the navigation bar.
2

Select the finished good

Click the first Dropdown at the top of the form and select the finished good item you want to create a BOM for. This is the item that will be produced using this BOM.
3

Select the raw material

In the raw materials table, click the Dropdown in the first row and select the raw material item that is required to produce the finished good.
4

Enter the quantity

In the same raw material row, enter the required quantity in the first number field. For example, enter 2 to specify that 2 units of the raw material are needed.
5

Enter the rate

In the same raw material row, enter the unit cost of the raw material in the second number field. For example, enter 25 to set the rate to 25.
6

Save the BOM

Click the Save button to save the Bill of Materials. The form will redirect away from the new record page once the BOM has been saved successfully.
You can add multiple raw material rows to a single BOM to represent all components required for a finished good. Fill in the Dropdown, quantity, and rate for each additional material.
After saving, the BOM will be assigned a unique record ID and the URL will update to reflect the saved record. If the page remains on the new form URL, verify that all required fields have been filled in correctly before saving again.
